Stupid Questions

It never fails. The double stroller comes out and the spectacle begins. You’d think the circus was in town or something. Maybe I’ll stop waxing my face and really give them something to gawk at. “Ladies and gentlemen, step right up and see the bearded lady and her big headed twins!” Everyone has to stop me and ask stupid questions. What should be a quick 5 minute trip in the store ends up taking 20 minutes. Well I’m tired of being polite to these total strangers. Here are the top 5 most common questions I get when I go out. And the answers I’d really love to give if I wasn’t so darn polite1

Q: Oh, look! Are they twins?
A: No Sherlock, I just had them really close together.

Q: What are they?
A: What are you. . .stupid? They are babies. Of the human variety. A boy and a girl to be precise.

Q: (This question usually follows “What are they?”) Are they identical?
A: Do they look identical? Please refer to my previous answer. Twins of opposite sexes are never identical. Duh!

Q: How do you tell them apart?
A: Ummm. . .I can’t. I frequently have to take off their diapers to see which is which.

Q: Did you have them naturally?
A: None of your business be-yotch! But if you must know, they are 100% organic. . .no synthetic materials whatsoever.

Twinspirational

Most of the time, Brayden is trying to steal whatever toy Makenzie is playing with. Big bully! But then there are "twinspirational" moments like this one. . .

. . .or when they are sitting in their high chairs eating and reach out to hold one another's hand. And then you can see their special connection and genuine love for each other.

Brayden's First Tooth

Brayden's first tooth broke through today. I had a feeling it was coming because he has be gnawing on EVERYTHING! Fortunately, neither him nor Makenzie have been fussy when teething. Just slobbery. Eeew!

Anything She Can Do. . .

Not to be outdone by his little sister, Brayden revealed this week that he too can sit up. But. . .he doesn't stay that way very long. He would much rather be rolling around on the floor trying to crawl or going crazy in his Jumperoo.

Look Mom, No Hands!

Makenzie can finally sit up all by herself!
She has such a cute smile, but it's hard to get a picture that way. She is always so curious and as soon as the camera comes out she stops smiling and just stares at it. I think the flash startles her as well, as you can see in the "deer in headlights" picture below.

7 Month Surprise

Brayden and Makenzie are exactly 7 months old today. And Makenzie had a birthday surpirse for me. . .her first tooth! She likes to put everything in her mouth, including other people's fingers. This morning she grabbed mine, clamped down and I felt something sharp. She'll be chewing steak in no time. :)

Group Hug

I was telling my friend Tina about this picture and she said I should post it. It is one of my favorite snapshots. My sister, Sonya, is holding Brayden when he was just one month old. Her daughter, Ember, decided she wanted in on the hug. Too cute!
